A striking new mural now graces Eastover, celebrating Bridgwater’s history, heritage and people.
The Eastover Mural, stands as a powerful symbol of collaboration and local identity.
Developed with direct input from residents through a series of community consultation events — some of whom are now featured in the mural itself — the project is a living tribute to the people and stories that shape Bridgwater’s unique character.
The Eastover Mural Project is a unique collaboration, made possible through funding from the Bridgwater Town Deal, Somerset Association of Local Councils (SALC) and Seed (funded by Creative People and Places – Arts Council England), who served as the project’s lead producers.
Thanks go to all community members who participated in the consultation process, helping to shape an artwork that authentically reflects Bridgwater’s identity and also to local businesses for their support, particularly the Mercure Hotel and The Eastover Indoor Shopping Centre.
The Eastover mural is one of three legacy projects under the “Animating the Town Deal” strand of the wider Bridgwater Town Deal programme.
Alongside the mural, a new heritage trail and a celebratory film are set to further showcase the town’s dedication to creativity and cultural engagement.
While the mural is already drawing attention, an official unveiling of the commemorative plaque is planned once nearby roadworks are completed.
Visitors may also notice that some scaffolding remains in place. This temporary measure is due to an active bird’s nest found within the structure. In accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, which makes it an offence to disturb nesting wild birds, the scaffolding will remain until the nesting period concludes.
