It is with deep disappointment that Bridgwater Town Council must address recent incidents of individuals tampering with a publicly accessible bleed control kit at ReCreation Community Hub.
These kits are not toys or objects of curiosity — they are life-saving resources designed to give bystanders the means to act quickly in a medical emergency, particularly in the event of a catastrophic bleed.
Bleed kits are crucial in the critical minutes following a serious injury, such as a stabbing, road traffic collision, or workplace accident.
Packed with trauma dressings, tourniquets, and other essential first-aid tools, these kits are meant to bridge the gap between injury and the arrival of emergency services. In some cases, they mean the difference between life and death.
When a bleed kit is vandalised, stolen, or tampered with, it may no longer be fit for use — rendering it useless when someone desperately needs it. The consequences of such actions are not just reckless; they are potentially fatal.
“We install these kits with the hope that they’re never needed — but if they are, they must be there, intact, and ready to use,” said Ann-Marie Gould, Community Development Officer at Bridgwater Town Council.
“It’s extremely disappointing to see people interfering with these kits. It not only puts lives at risk but also undermines the trust and effort that goes into safeguarding our communities.”
If you witness anyone tampering with a bleed kit, please report it immediately. You can call the non-emergency police number, 101.
Additionally members of the public wo see anyone tampering with the bleed kit at Recreation can email [email protected], or send a message via the ReCreation Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ReCreationHubHamp to ensure the necessary action is taken to make sure that these kits are available in case of an emergency.
