Calling all aspiring young filmmakers living in Somerset. Submit your idea for a short film by July 18th for a chance to get cash and access to equipment and expertise to make your ideas a reality.
Thanks to support from BFI Film Academy South West and Watershed, this year local charity Somerset Film is again commissioning a young filmmaker to produce an original short film!
If you’re under 25, then you’re invited to pitch your idea to be made. The film idea should be for a short narrative fiction piece ie. comedy or drama (not documentary) which has a maximum runtime of five minutes. It’s free to submit your ideas and you can submit more than one.
You don’t need to have any previous experience in filmmaking or scriptwriting to apply but you must be committed to seeing your idea through to completion.
This will be the fourth year that Somerset Film has been able to provide this opportunity.
“The South West has a lot of talented young creatives, providing this opportunity for the next generation of filmmakers to develop their creative ideas and make a short film is an amazing experience!” Laura, Assistant Producer
The successful applicant will be provided with; a producer mentor, access to Somerset Film equipment and a budget of £500, which can be used for costs relating to the production of the film. The film must be completed by December 31st 2025.
To submit a film idea, complete the application form and attach an outline of your idea (often called a ‘treatment’) by midnight on July 18th 2025.
