Bridgwater’s historic Mayor Making Ceremony took place in Bridgwater Town Hall on 31 May.
Attended by a number of dignitaries including the High Sheriff of Somerset, Mayors past and present and Mayors from surrounding towns, the ceremony was introduced by Mace Bearer, Chris Hocking.
Outgoing Mayor, Councillor Mick Lerry reflected back on his time as mayor, before officially handing over the mayoral chains to Councillor Jacqui Solomon.
Mayor Solomon said:
“I am truly thrilled and honoured to have been elected as the new Mayor of Bridgwater Town Council. As your Mayor, I promise to work tirelessly to serve our community and to promote Bridgwater as an even better place to live, work, and visit. I will listen to your concerns, work with our local businesses and organisations, and strive to make a positive impact on our town.
I am committed to preserving the unique character of our town, while also embracing change and progress. I will work to ensure that our town remains a vibrant and inclusive place, where everyone feels welcome and valued”
The Mayors chosen charity this year is Seed of Hope CIC, who are a social enterprise that help people with mental health problems grow recovery through social and therapeutic gardening.
Mayor Solomon concluded by welcoming Councillor Kathy Pearce as her deputy and Pheobe Solomon as her Mayoress.
