Eastover and Angel Crescent in Bridgwater are hosting a big party to showcase the areas and local businesses following completion last year of a Government-funded Town Deal scheme.
The Pave the Way event will take place from 12-6pm on Saturday 25 April and is a family-friendly multi-street festival of music, food and novelty cars.
Local traders are spearheading the event, which is supported by Bridgwater Town Council and Somerset Council; there will be stalls selling food, drink and an exhibition of famous and quirky vehicles will span the length of Eastover, including Mater from Cars, a Transformer and Del Boy’s Robin Reliant to name a few…
There will be two music stages, one in Eastover and one in Angel Crescent, organised by SKLTN Events, hosting a wide range of acts throughout the event, from rock to folk, and the event will close with a vehicle procession and fireworks on the Town Bridge.
Under the regeneration scheme, funded by Bridgwater Town Deal, and completed last autumn, the Eastover area of the town along with Angel Place and Clare Street were given new wider pavements, lighting and planters.
These improvements go in tandem with new public art funded by the Town Deal – the Eastover Mural on the Indoor Market and the colourful brickwork project at the junction of Broadway and St John Street.
Councillor Brian Smedley, Leader of Bridgwater Town Council, said:
“Pave the Way’ is all about celebrating the people and businesses who bring Eastover and Angel Crescent to life every day. After everything the area has had to contend with in recent years, this event feels like a real moment of positivity and pride. With music, food and character cars on show, it’s set to be a great day out for everyone.”
Graham from SKLTN Events said:
“This is a chance for Bridgwater traders and residents to show that Bridgwater is open, and local businesses have pulled through after a challenging few years. This event is a showcase of Bridgwater traders, musicians and cars to show off what we can do and what we will do in the future.”
Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Economic Development, Planning and Assets said:
“I’m delighted Eastover is going to host this fantastic event, as well as making the area more attractive for shoppers and visitors, this project was all about helping to make events like this possible. I know everyone involved will make this a brilliant day to remember, and hopefully a recurring event!”
