Friday evening (23 August) staff from Bridgwater Town Council collected scrap metal pulled from the River Parrett after the community came together to clear a stretch of the river.
Due to the Bank Holiday Weekend, the collected waste was stored temporarily as our vans were required by the Open Spaces team for their duties over the weekend.
The waste was sorted for proper disposal, with non-recyclable items separated.
Given that the waste was covered in silt, we made the decision to store it on the grass at the top of the cemetery to allow it to dry out, in hindsight we appreciate this may not have been the best place to store it but we did not have an alternative location at the time.
Our intention was to remove the waste on Tuesday, 27 August, however, due to unforeseen staff shortages, this did not take place as planned.
The scrap was taken away today (28 August) and its value of £24 will be donated to the Mayors chosen charity – Seed of Hope CIC
Bridgwater Town Council would like to apologise for any distress this may have caused.
