This summer Bridgwater is set to bloom with an array of planting by Bridgwater Town Council’s Open Spaces Team.
A carefully selected mix of flowering plants — including Begonia, Petunia, Calibrachoa, Sanvitalia, Bacopa, and Geranium — have been planted, specifically chosen for their long flowering periods and rich nectar, offering a vital food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects.
“We’re planting for colour, but also with a purpose,” said Cllr Kathy Pearce from Bridgwater Town Council. “By selecting plants that attract and support pollinators, we’re contributing to the health of our local ecosystem while also creating a welcoming and beautiful environment for residents and visitors alike.”
“Pollinators play a crucial role in our food chain and ecosystems, but many are in decline, every flower we plant helps. Together, we can make Bridgwater not only more beautiful but more biodiverse and resilient.”
The plants will fill 34 hanging baskets and 29 barrier planters, complementing the vibrant mix of hardy perennials and ornamental grasses planted earlier this year. This ensures year-round interest.
