With the colder months approaching Bridgwater Town Council will extend the opening hours of its “Warm Space”.
Held every Tuesday in the Town Hall, sessions will run from 9:30am until 1.00pm starting from 22 October 2024 until the end of March 2025 when opening times will be reviewed.
Inside, visitors can enjoy a free hot (or cold) drink and a biscuit, there is an opportunity to charge mobile phones, use the Wi-Fi, and make use of a communal laptop.
Newspapers, puzzles and books will also be available to help visitors enjoy their time.
Due to previous success, the warm space will also hold free crafting sessions throughout the winter.
For those in need of assistance, the space will provide advice by signposting useful charities and organisations, covering all issues from budgeting, education, and debt management to food and fuel poverty, mental health, and physical health.
One of the standout features of this Warm Space is the opportunity to brush up on digital skills. In today’s increasingly digital world, having the ability to use technology effectively is crucial. Thanks to Spark-IT Project the Warm Space provides resources and guidance to help individuals improve their digital literacy, from basic computer skills to navigating the internet safely.
Warm Spaces like the one at Bridgwater Town Hall are vital in creating a supportive, connected, and resilient community. They offer a place of warmth, friendship, and support, making a significant difference in the lives of many.
Councillor Brian Smedley, Leader of Bridgwater Town Council said
“This will be our third year running the warm space. The struggles of fuel poverty and cost of living are as prevalent as they were in the former years and we want to offer people a warm safe space to come and meet others, find some support and connect. We have watched some wonderful friendships blossom and look forward to another winter warming group offering.”
