Are you a budding photographer living in Somerset aged 25 and under? Do you enjoy capturing the world through images using your phone, tablet or DSLR? Do you have a photo you have taken
that you would love to share with the general public?
The media charity Somerset Film are inviting anyone under the age of 25 and living in Somerset to submit up to three images for consideration for a planned showcase at The Engine Room in
August 2025. One image, selected by their panel of judges, which celebrates the environment or highlights climate change will also receive the Robert Richards Award. The award is in memory of
their former Chair of Trustees. Robert Richards, who worked at Glastonbury Festival with Michael Eavis and was also a trustee for Glastonbury Abbey, was passionate about supporting emerging
talent and this is the third year the award has been offered. Creative Director Deb Richardson said
“We aim to showcase as many images as possible. This was an idea put forward by our Youth Advisory Forum. We were discussing the ways in which young people are creative on a daily basis and what opportunities there were for showcasing their talent. They identified that many young people enjoy photography, either on their phone or a DSLR, but there weren’t enough opportunities for sharing their work, particularly if their social media accounts were private. With the new facilities at The Engine Room, this is now possible so we’re planning for the showcase to take place during the summer holidays.”
Send your images via email to [email protected] or tag them via Instagram with the hashtag #RobertRichardsAward. Entries close on May 31st 2025.
Guidelines for submissions and further details can be found on their website: https://www.somersetfilm.com/community or call 01278 433187.
If you have an idea for a creative activity or event that you’d like to suggest to Somerset Film then the next Youth Advisory Forum will take place during half-term on Wednesday 19th February at
2pm at The Engine Room, 52 High street, Bridgwater. Those aged under 21 or anyone from an organisation which supports children and young people can attend.
