Bridgwater Town Hall front façade will be having scaffolding installed from Monday 19 August 2024 in preparation for ongoing repairs and maintenance to the building. It will take approximately 2 weeks to scaffold the Town Hall elevation prior to works commencing.
This is the first stage of the site wide redevelopment project that will take this listed building into the next phase of its history.
The planned work includes:
- Undertake necessary repairs of all masonry including removing defective render and replacing with new lime render
- Full repainting of the masonry using specialist materials and products from KEIM
- Refurbishment, repairs and repainting of the sash windows
- Refurbishment and repainting of the existing doors
- Refurbishment and redecoration of metal railings, handrails and rainwater goods
- Replace and install new bird netting
Additionally, Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Cells will be installed on the roof in preparation for transitioning from gas central heating to electric heating and hot water supply.
This is the first step for Bridgwater Town Hall reducing the use of fossil fuels and moving to renewable energy sources to minimise its impact on the environment and adapt to climate change.
Any roof repairs will be undertaken in advance of the PV installation to ensure the maximum life span of the cells.
By grouping these tasks together, scaffolding will only need to be erected once.
This work is expected to take 10 weeks in total.
Users of the Town Hall theatre area are reassured that is will not affect any bookings or performances and that it will be ‘business as usual’ for the building.
Works will be completed and scaffolding removed before Bridgwater Carnival.
