Bridgwater Town Council is pleased to invite residents and visitors to a traditional May Day celebration at Blake Gardens, taking place on the bank holiday Monday, 4 May, between 11.00am and 3.00pm.
The event will celebrate the arrival of spring with a programme of traditional entertainment, family activities and community-led attractions, set within the popular town centre gardens.
Highlights of the day include free maypole dancing sessions, lively Morris dancing performances, and a variety of community stalls showcasing local groups and crafts. Younger visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including a bouncy castle and face painting.
A selection of food and refreshments will also be available throughout the event, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The May Day Celebration offers a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere, providing the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to come together, celebrate local traditions, and make the most of the spring season in a welcoming outdoor setting.
Councillor Liz Leavy from Bridgwater Town Council said,
“The May Day celebration is a fantastic way to begin our summer programme of events, which the Town Council is proud to deliver for residents and visitors each year.
“Now that the Town Council has responsibility for our parks and open spaces it is especially rewarding to be able to host these celebrations in Blake Gardens bringing people together to socialise and enjoy traditional entertainment.”
The council is pleased to bring together local performers, stallholders and families for a celebration that highlights community spirit and seasonal traditions.
The event is free to attend and open to all, May Day is a long‑standing tradition, and the Blake Gardens fete helps to launch Bridgwater Town Council’s programme of free summer events.
