Communities across the UK are coming together to celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2026, a national campaign recognising the invaluable contributions of volunteers who make a difference every day.
Running from 1–7 June 2026, the annual event highlights the outstanding efforts of individuals who give their time, energy and skills to support others and strengthen local communities.
In Bridgwater Volunteers’ Week provides an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the people behind grassroots initiatives and community projects and the role volunteers play in building a more resilient and connected society.
The contribution of volunteers often happens quietly, with their efforts most visible through the positive impact they have on others. Volunteers’ Week offers a valuable opportunity for everyone to recognise and celebrate the dedication and commitment of those who help shape Bridgwater’s communities.
“Volunteers are at the heart of our community,” said Cllr Liz Leavy, Chair of Bridgwater Town Councils Communities and Cultural Committee. “Volunteers’ Week gives us the chance to say thank you and to highlight just how essential their contributions are.
“Volunteering brings people together, giving volunteers a chance to meet each other and share their different interests and experiences. It builds confidence, skills, friendships and stronger neighbourhoods.
“We see first-hand the positive impact volunteers make across Bridgwater and we are committed to supporting and celebrating them, not just during Volunteers Week, but all year round.
Bridgwater Town Council is encouraging residents to take a moment this week to thank the volunteers in their lives and to consider getting involved in local initiatives themselves.
Volunteering not only benefits communities but also offers individuals the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and form meaningful connections. As more people look for ways to make a positive difference, Volunteers’ Week serves as a reminder that everyone has something valuable to offer.
Residents are invited to explore volunteering opportunities at Blake Museum, Bridgwater Arts Centre, ReCreation, Parkway Hub and South Bridgwater Pantry, as well as supporting free community events organised by the Town Council.
