The Community Drop In launched on the 18th of October at the Town Hall as a warm relaxed place to come and have a free hot drink and something to eat over the Winter months. We have got off to a great start and have already welcomed members from our community who have popped in to read a newspaper, use the internet, get something to eat and have a chat with others. Now that we are launched, we are beginning to invite organisations and charities along to offer support and advice to the community.
Here is the schedule for the month of November-
On the 8th we will be joined by Kathryn from the Somerset Financial Wellbeing Project. This project has been created to give people the tools they need to understand and manage their finances better, manage debt, and know where to turn to for help, as well as raising awareness of the benefits that becoming a member of your local credit union can offer.
On the 15th of November we will be joined by Nikki from Navigate Charity – a local service that can offer free confidential & impartial advice on all thing’s money related including benefits, budgeting and debt. Pop in for an informal chat in a relaxed friendly environment
On the 22nd of November we are joined by Age UK Somerset who will be sharing information about their wonderful ‘walk and talk’ Befriending service, how we as a community can volunteer our time and to find out more about getting an older person involved who could benefit from a bit of company.
On the 29th we are making our own door draft excluders from recycled materials. We would gratefully welcome any members of the community to come along and have a go and would especially welcome those who are a dab hand with a sewing needle!
If you would like to make a draught excluder, please email [email protected] to book a place. The session will run from 12pm until 3pm although the actual drop in will be open from 10am.
Along with these date specific things we continue to offer free hot drinks and snacks, use of the laptop or to log into our Wi-Fi, borrow a book, read a newspaper, do a crossword and chat with others. We also have some sanitary products and washing powder pods to take away if anyone needs some.
Come and say hello! All are welcome.
