While there may not yet be dramatic visual changes for visitors to see, significant progress is being made behind the scenes at Bridgwater Town Hall.
Much of the work currently taking place focuses on the essential preparation and infrastructure that will ensure the venue can be transformed into the best possible space for future generations.
One of the key elements of this stage is the installation of the building’s MEP services (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing), covering everything from power supplies and lighting to heating, water services and other critical components to a building infrastructure. Although much of this work is hidden from view once complete, it forms the backbone of a modern and efficient venue.
Progress has been made since the last update with the continuation of asbestos being safely removed from the site, allowing routes for major cabling and MEP services to be installed and routed efficiently around the building.
Inside the Charter Hall, strip-out works have been completed to allow restoration and refurbishment to begin. Scaffolding has also been erected within the theatre, enabling access to the roof void and existing lighting infrastructure, while preparations continue for the installation of a state-of-the-art audio and technical package.
Every step of this work may be largely hidden from view, but it is laying the foundations for a revitalised Town Hall that will provide improved accessibility, enhanced visitor experiences, modern performance facilities and a sustainable future for one of Bridgwater’s most important heritage buildings.
