We have been provided with this update from Somerset Council.
‘Delivering the Celebration Mile projects has been a long standing ambition of Somerset Council and in particular the Eastover section has been subject to extensive consultation and discussions since 2012. Securing the Town Deal grant from Government has enabled the delivery of this important project for Bridgwater with the aim of making accessibility for pedestrians, shoppers and cyclists much more available. These works will improve the street hugely and help make Eastover a more successful trading environment. Currently the project team are preparing technical and design work ready to release information for tender procurement to secure a contractor to deliver the works. At this stage we don’t have any detail on the phasing of the works and will work with the selected contractor to develop this plan. We will also be preparing a communication strategy to allow effective dissemination of information in particular to traders in Eastover, Angel Place and Clare Street.
It is inevitable that there will be disruption but by working with the contractor and traders we will keep this to a minimum and ensure that advance warning of different stages are effectively communicated.
Broadly the timeline is as follows:
• Release tender to the contractor market end of June.
• Receive bids from contractors in August.
• Select preferred contractor in September.
• Works start October’.
