Over 100 local people came together this weekend for a community litter pick that truly showed the power of unity and pride in our town.
Groups including the Scouts, Girl Guides, Sea Cadets, Rhode Lane Wanderers JFC, Sydenham Improvement Group, Hamp Community Association, six local town councillors, three housing associations, and three community centres all joined forces—collecting over 50 bags of litter.
As we all know, litter is an ongoing battle, and Bridgwater Town Council works hard to keep on top of it. But this event wasn’t just about cleaning up—it was about coming together to learn, connect, and take positive action for our community.
The energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork on display were incredible, and the day also served as an opportunity to educate about looking after the environment for future generations.
Local Councillors Leigh Redman, Liz Leavy, Kath Pearce , Diogo Rodrigues, Carole Edmunds, Brian Smedley, and Liz Marsh rolled up their sleeves to lend a hand.
Housing associations Homes in Somerset, Abri, and LiveWest also gave their support to the day’s activities, helping to show that when it comes to caring for our community, we’re all in it together.
Free refreshments were kindly provided at The ReCreation Community Hub at Hamp, Victoria Park Community Centre, and Sydenham Community Centre, offering a well-earned break and space to catch up for all those involved.
Cllr Brian Smedley praised the event for showing true community spirit:
“This wasn’t just about picking up litter—this was about pride in where we live. The sense of community and shared purpose was palpable. It’s events like these that remind us of the strength we have when we come together.”
This event, part of the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, was a reminder that when we work together, we can make a real difference.
