A new Facebook page is being launched by Somerset County Council’s Central Volunteer Team to keep people informed about Somerset County Council’s volunteer opportunities, key updates and good news stories.
Volunteering was significantly impacted by the pandemic, with many services unable to operate due to lockdown. As restrictions ease and more volunteering roles are returning to action, the new ‘Volunteering at Somerset County Council’ Facebook page will help promote volunteering opportunities, share the latest volunteering news, stories, videos, and events, and help make people more aware of the many benefits of volunteering and how it helps Somerset’s residents.
The page launches today (1st November 2021) and can be found by searching for @volunteeringatsomersetcountycouncil or visiting the Volunteering in Somerset Facebook page.
Cllr Clare Paul, Somerset County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health, said: “This new Facebook page will be a valuable resource to help recruit volunteers as more opportunities return.
“Volunteering has been shown to have significant mental and physical health benefits and is good for meeting new people, learning new skills, gaining new experiences and making memories.
“Volunteers give up their time to help make Somerset a better place. They help communities and change lives – and we couldn’t be more grateful. Just as volunteering played such a pivotal role in getting Somerset through the Covid-19 pandemic, it will play a valuable part in the county’s recovery.”
Somerset County Council’s volunteering team offers a range of opportunities with SCC services, so people can find something that works for them.
For those who like getting outdoors there are roles with our Rights of Way team; if you want to support children and young people then a role with Route 1 advocacy may be for you.
Other options include roles as school governors, minibus drivers, library volunteers, digital customer volunteers and lots more.
Be sure to give the new Volunteering at Somerset County Council Facebook page a like to stay up to date with the latest information.
