The countdown is on as Bridgwater Playday returns next week with a day packed full of free, family-friendly fun for children of all ages.
Taking place on Wednesday 5 August at St Matthew’s Field, the event forms part of the national Playday campaign – the UK’s biggest celebration of children’s right to play. This year’s theme is “Play – Here, There, Everywhere”, highlighting the importance of play in helping children build confidence, creativity and friendships.
Running from 10.00am to 3.00pm, Bridgwater Playday promises an exciting programme of activities, entertainment and opportunities for children and families to enjoy quality time together outdoors.
Best of all, every activity is free, giving local families the chance to enjoy a fun-filled day out without worrying about the cost.
Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), or those who may prefer a quieter environment, are encouraged to attend during the first hour of the event, from 10.00am to 11.00am, when the site is expected to be less busy.

Please note:
- Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.
- Refreshments will be available to purchase throughout the day, although visitors are also welcome to bring their own picnic.
- Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times and owners are asked to clean up after them. In hot weather, dog owners are encouraged to consider whether their pets would be more comfortable remaining at home.
- Parking: A £1 charge per vehicle will apply. All proceeds will support future Playday events, helping to fund Playday 2027. Disabled parking is available on site but spaces are limited. To help reduce congestion and support sustainable travel, visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport where possible.
- Children’s safety: Wristbands will be available for children, allowing parents or guardians to write contact details on them. If a child becomes separated from their family, organisers will be able to reunite them more quickly. The Lost Child Point will be located at the Bridgwater Town Council gazebo.
- Donations: While Playday is free to attend, donations are always welcome. Contributions help ensure the event remains free and accessible for local families in future years.
- No smoking: Due to the recent hot and dry weather, smoking is prohibited anywhere on the event site to reduce the risk of fire.
