History will come to life in the heart of Bridgwater on Saturday 22 August as Blake Gardens transforms into a spectacular Living History Day from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Visitors of all ages are invited to travel back through the centuries and experience history as never before. From thrilling battle displays and military re-enactments to hands-on activities and live entertainment, this free family-friendly event promises a packed programme of discovery, excitement and fun.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy:
- Full combat displays from The Somerset Barons
- Roman military re-enactments from The Ermine Street Guard
- Musket firing demonstrations from History Workshops
- Living history displays from The Sutton Household
Those looking for a more immersive experience can test their skills with a variety of interactive activities, including axe throwing, archery and sword fighting, giving them the chance to step into the shoes of people from the past.
As part of the celebrations, Blake Museum will also be marking its 100th anniversary. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the museum and discover fascinating artefacts from Bridgwater’s rich history, including weapons linked to the historic Pitchfork Rebellion.
Adding to the atmosphere will be music from the 1920s performed by Chrystal Bliss, while Sedgemoor FM will be broadcasting throughout the day, helping to bring this special community celebration to life.
