Bridgwater’s Snowflakes and Shopping Christmas Lights Switch-On returns on Saturday 22 November 2025, bringing festive cheer to the heart of the town.
The celebrations begin at 10.00am at Cornhill and High Street, where visitors can soak up a lively festive atmosphere filled with market stalls, street food and seasonal entertainment.
As daylight fades, excitement builds for the grand Christmas lights switch-on, where at 5.45pm Father Christmas will lead the way before the lights are officially switched on at 6.00pm by Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Kathy Pearce and the Bridgwater Town Team competition winner – a young person recognised for helping to make Bridgwater a brighter community.
“This event is a fantastic way to kick off the festive season and support local traders. I look forward to seeing everyone there!” said Cllr Kathy Pearce.
The evening continues at 6.30pm with a spectacular squibbing display on Bridgwater Town Bridge, a dazzling tradition that brings a touch of Bridgwater Carnival magic to the Christmas festivities.
Visitors can also support the Mayor of Bridgwater’s chosen charity, Men’s Shed, by purchasing raffle tickets throughout the day. All proceeds will go directly to supporting this valuable local initiative.
To ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, Cornhill and High Street will be closed to traffic from 8.00am to 8.00pm.
The event is organised by Bridgwater Town Council, in partnership with the Bridgwater Town Team and the Bridgwater Food and Drink Festival.
The day also marks the launch of the annual Bridgwater Town Team Christmas Shop Window Competition, judged by the Mayor, Cllr Kathy Pearce.
Local businesses are encouraged to get creative with their festive displays ready for judging by 12 December 2025.
Join us for a day of snowflakes, shopping and sparkle as Bridgwater lights up for Christmas.
