Young Somerset is the chosen charity for this year’s Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Leigh Redman.
Over the coming months, he will work in partnership with the charity to raise awareness of its services and generate funds to support its work with young people and families across Bridgwater and Somerset.
Young Somerset is the county’s largest youth and community support charity, providing a range of services including mental health and wellbeing support, alternative education provision, youth work, employability programmes and community-based support for young people facing a variety of challenges.
Councillor Leigh Redman said,
“Young Somerset makes a real difference to the lives of young people and families across Bridgwater and Somerset. Every day they provide support, guidance and opportunities that help young people build confidence, overcome challenges and achieve their potential.
“As Mayor, and as someone who has spent many years championing better outcomes for children and young people, I am proud to have chosen Young Somerset as my Charity of the Year. Their work reflects my belief that every young person deserves the best possible start in life and access to the support they need to thrive.
“Throughout the year I look forward to working alongside the charity to raise awareness of its services and generate vital funds. I encourage residents, businesses, schools, community groups and organisations across Bridgwater to get involved and help us support this fantastic cause”
Young Somerset has welcomed the opportunity to work alongside the Mayor and engage with more people across the town.
Peter Elliott, Head of Partnerships and Development at Young Somerset said,
“Bridgwater has always been an important part of Young Somerset’s journey, and we are excited to be working with Bridgwater’s new Mayor, Councillor Leigh Redman.”
A variety of fundraising and awareness-raising activities will take place during the Mayor’s year in office, helping to support Young Somerset’s mission of putting young people first and ensuring they have access to the help, guidance and opportunities they need to thrive.
