Visitors to Blake Museum are invited to discover a fascinating chapter of Somerset’s technological history in a new exhibition exploring the rise, importance and eventual decline of the Bridgwater Wireless Station and other wireless stations across the county.
Created by local researcher Larry Bennett, the exhibition brings together photographs, information and historical records charting the development of wireless communication in the area and its role in connecting communities and supporting wider communications networks during the twentieth century.
Running from 7 October to 7 November, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to learn about a little-known part of Bridgwater’s heritage. Through a collection of historical images and research, visitors can explore how the Bridgwater Wireless Station operated, the people connected with it and the legacy it has left behind.
The exhibition highlights the significance of wireless technology at a time when radio communication was transforming the way information was shared across the country and beyond. It also examines the changing technologies that ultimately led to the station’s decline.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to take the opportunity to explore this intriguing exhibition and discover more about Bridgwater’s place in the history of wireless communication.
In addition to this exhibition, visitors are warmly invited to enjoy the museum’s wider displays, which celebrate Bridgwater’s rich history and heritage. Visitors can also enjoy the museum shop, and refreshments are available.
While entry to the museum is free, donations are always welcome.
The Blake Museum is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with last admission at 3.00pm.
