Bridgwater Town Council is pleased to announce the official opening of the newly improved Mansfield Park, following significant investment into the site over the past year.
The upgrade includes the installation of a brand‑new Multi‑Use Games Area (MUGA), designed for football and basketball, alongside a range of new and improved play equipment suitable for children of all ages.
These improvements form part of a wider programme to enhance play opportunities and accessible recreation across the town. The project has been made possible thanks to funding from both the Hinkley Point C (HPC) Community Fund, managed by Somerset Community Foundation and the Hamp Community Association whose support has enabled the delivery of modern, high‑quality facilities that will benefit residents for many years to come.
The event will take place on Tuesday 7 April, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, with the Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Kathy Pearce, formally opening the site at 2.15pm. The event will feature children’s entertainer, Action Pussycat, face painting, balloon modelling and an ice cream van will be on site to purchase ice creams throughout the afternoon.
Cllr Tim Mander, Chair of Bridgwater Town Councils Amenities Committee said, “We are delighted to see the transformation of Mansfield Park finally come to fruition. The new MUGA and the upgraded play area provide fantastic opportunities for children, young people and families to get active and enjoy time outdoors. We are deeply grateful to the Somerset Community Foundation and the Hamp Community Association for their generous support, which has been instrumental in making this project a reality.
“For far too long, the Hamp Estate has not received the level of investment in play facilities that it needs and deserves. The new MUGA and play equipment are long overdue but they are very welcome. These improvements reflect our ongoing commitment to creating safe, welcoming and engaging spaces for the whole community.”
Cllr Leigh Redman, Hamp Ward Councillor and Secretary of Hamp Community Association said, “It’s wonderful to see Mansfield Park given the investment and attention it deserves. This space has always been at the heart of the Hamp community and these upgrades will ensure that local children and families have safe, modern and exciting facilities to enjoy. We’re proud to have supported this project and I’m looking forward to seeing the park buzzing with activity for many years to come.”
Additional improvements to the football facilities are also planned in the near future, further enhancing opportunities for sport and recreation within the park.
This free, family-friendly event is open to all and residents are warmly encouraged to attend, explore the facilities and enjoy the range of activities on offer.
