At its Planning Committee meeting on 21 August 2025, Bridgwater Town Council formally considered the licensing application for a new Domino’s Pizza outlet at Northgate Yard. The application included a proposal for extended opening hours from 11.00pm to 5.00am.
Following discussion, the Committee unanimously objected to the proposed hours.
Cllr Tim Mander, Chair of the Planning Committee, commented,
“The Planning Committee, which also reviews licensing applications, was firmly of the view that allowing the outlet to operate until 5.00am would act as a magnet for late-night revellers and could lead to increased anti-social behaviour, noise and disruption for nearby residents.
“The proposed hours are completely out of step with the other food and drink businesses currently operating at Northgate Yard. There are several residential properties in close proximity, including the former Magistrates Court, Blakes Court, and Blacklands, which would likely be affected by the inevitable late-night disturbances.”
The application will now be considered by a Licensing Panel convened by Somerset Council.
Bridgwater Town Council remains committed to ensuring that developments within the town centre are balanced with the needs of the local community.
