Bridgwater Town Councillors will be supporting the “How Green is Your Workplace?” event at the Engine Room, 50-52 High Street, Bridgwater TA6 3BL as part of the International Day of Climate Action.
The event takes place on 24 October from 7.00pm until 10.00pm and is aimed at addressing the urgent need for sustainable practices in our daily lives and workplaces and will feature speakers from the Green Jobs Alliance, the General Federation of Trades Unions, and the Town Council. Attendees will also enjoy film screenings and live music from Theo Simon and Seize the Day friends.
Town Council speakers will be Climate and Environment lead Cllr Kathy Pearce and Amenities and Properties spokesperson Cllr Tim Mander.
Cllr Pearce and Cllr Mander will share insights on how the Town Council is reducing carbon emissions through initiatives like solar heating, electric vehicles, and energy-efficient buildings. They will also discuss managing cemeteries and parks without pesticides, eliminating single-use plastics, supporting food pantries, and promoting the annual Seed The Day vegan fair and local allotments.
Cllr Kathy Pearce said,
“This event gives us a chance to discuss ideas for actions at home and in workplaces, and to sketch out an action plan we can support in the coming months. It’s a contribution to the International Day of Climate Action.”
Cllr Tim Mander commented,
“I am delighted to be an advocate for the Town Council’s efforts to ‘green’ its workplace and the buildings it operates. A prime example of this commitment is the decarbonisation of the Town Hall, where we have replaced the antiquated gas heating system with a fully electric one, supported by an array of solar panels. This is just the beginning, and there is much more to come.”
This event is organised by the Bridgwater and District Trades Unions Council with participation from the Green Jobs Alliance.
