Bridgwater Town Council is enhancing gully cleaning services to improve drainage and reduce the risk of local flooding. However, recent efforts have been hampered by parked vehicles, despite advance warning notices being issued. As a result, the work had to be postponed, leading to delays in other scheduled maintenance.
To allow for essential gully cleaning, temporary parking suspensions are sometimes required to ensure that machinery can access the blocked gullies. Unfortunately, some vehicle owners ignored warning signs, leading to penalty charge notices being issued and the works being aborted.
Councillor Tim Mander, Chair of Bridgwater Town Council Amenities Committees said,
“Sites have been scheduled for cleaning following requests from local residents, but unfortunately, parked vehicles have prevented us from carrying work on some streets. Rescheduling this work has a knock-on effect causing further delays to other planned maintenance activities”
The council urges residents to adhere to parking restrictions when maintenance work is planned to avoid further disruptions.
