A scorched area of grass and debris has been discovered at Mansfield Park, raising concerns about fire-related activity during a period of heightened wildfire risk.
The damage comes as dry conditions continue across the country, with national agencies warning that fires can start and spread rapidly in grassland, parks and other open spaces. Most wildfires in the UK are caused by human activity.
Tim Mander , Chair of Bridgwater Town Councils Amenities Committee said, “The discovery of fire damage at Mansfield Park is disappointing and concerning. With the current dry conditions, even a small fire can quickly develop into a much larger incident, putting people, wildlife and green spaces at risk. We are asking everyone to act responsibly and help protect our parks.”
Visitors are being reminded to take extra care while enjoying local parks and open spaces and to be mindful of the increased fire risk during periods of warm, dry weather. Guidance advises against lighting fires in parks and other open areas and encourages people to dispose of litter and smoking materials responsibly.
