Bridgwater Town Council is pleased to announce the implementation of increased security measures for Eastover Park (Cranleigh Gardens) to help prevent unauthorised access.
In March, Bridgwater Town Council held a well-attended event with local residents to assess the options for these measures and the consensus was clear: heightened security is necessary. Attendees had the opportunity to propose security measures, and options such as concrete bollards and concrete planters were discussed.
Following this event a combination of concrete bollards and planters will be installed to prevent vehicular access to the park from the Medical Centre to the mural wall.
Permitted vehicle access will be managed via telescopic bollards, similar to those recently installed at St Matthew’s Field.
Although the concrete bollards may not be the most visually appealing solution, they are essential for park security park, ensuring the green space remains accessible to all. To enhance the park’s appearance, Bridgwater Town Council will work with local schools and community groups to incorporate artwork and greenery into the concrete planters, helping to create a more welcoming and attractive space.
Installation of these security measures is scheduled for April 2025.
Cllr Tim Mander, Chair of the Amenities Committee said,
“Ensuring the safety and accessibility of our parks is a top priority. I was pleased to take part in the public consultation event with local residents, where we discussed and secured community approval for the proposed security measures. These measures will help protect Eastover Park while ensuring it remains a welcoming space for residents and visitors alike.
Cllr Jacqui Solomon, Eastover Ward Councillor added,
“The input from local residents and community groups has been instrumental in shaping these improvements. These security measures are essential, but we also recognise the importance of keeping the park attractive. By collaborating with schools and local artists, we hope to turn these features into something that enhances the space while keeping it safe for all.”
