Bridgwater Town Council has taken over responsibility for the Rollercoaster Centre on Parkway in Sydenham, following a devolution agreement with Somerset Council.
Since the agreement was signed in February 2025, the Town Council has been working to ensure the building meets all necessary safety and accessibility standards, with the goal of making it a sustainable space for both meaningful community use and income generation.
To ensure the centre reflects the needs and aspirations of local people, Bridgwater Town Council is inviting residents, professionals, charities, and community organisations to a Consultation Day on Thursday 10 July, aimed at shaping the future of the centre.
This event is a key step in developing Rollercoaster into a thriving, inclusive hub—one that embodies the ideas and ambitions of those it serves.
The day will be divided into two sessions. The morning will feature a targeted drop-in for professionals, charities, and local organisations to discuss potential services, partnership opportunities, and support that could be delivered through the centre.
From 2.00pm onwards, the centre will open its doors to the wider community. Local residents are invited to drop in, share their thoughts on what Sydenham needs, and take part in informal discussions about how Rollercoaster can become a lively and welcoming community space—similar in spirit to the much-loved ReCreation hub in Hamp—while complementing existing services in the area.
Whether you are part of a local organisation or a resident with a vision for Sydenham, Bridgwater Town Council wants to hear from you. This is your chance to get involved and help shape a space for everyone.
