Bridgwater is proudly twinned with six towns across Europe: La Ciotat in France, Homberg in Germany, Uherské Hradiště in the Czech Republic, Marsa in Malta, Priverno in Italy, and Camacha in Portugal.
Each year, twinning groups from these towns come together to celebrate their connections.
This year’s celebrations start with the Annual Petanque Tournament in Victoria Park on Friday 6 June between 11.30am and 3.00pm.
Pétanque – the popular French game of boules – was originally invented in La Ciotat, Bridgwater’s twin town in France. Now in its fifth year, the tournament will feature eight competing teams, and members of the public are invited to attend to see which of the 8 teams will triumph.
On Saturday 7 June from 7.00pm at the Purplespoon Café, at the YMCA, there will be an evening event featuring talks, photos and films from the various twinning groups activities from the past 12 months, along with live music from Portuguese singer, Nuno Custodio.
A suggested contribution of £5 per person will support future twinning initiatives.
