Members of the Bridgwater Transport Forum have warmly welcomed plans to explore the creation of a town-wide Transport Hub at Bridgwater Bus and Coach Station.
At a meeting of the Forum on Tuesday 6 October, officers from Somerset Council outlined the scope of a feasibility study that has commenced to investigate potential improvements to the bus station site. The study will consider the local transport context and the site’s connections with Bridgwater Railway Station and the town centre.
The Forum was advised that the feasibility study will help identify options for enhancing public transport infrastructure and improving connectivity across the town. Local representatives will be engaged throughout the process, ensuring that community views help shape future proposals.
A range of enhancements are being examined, including improved accessibility, upgraded passenger shelters, kerbs and lighting, CCTV provision, wheelchair access, National Express stopping arrangements, real-time passenger information displays, and public conveniences.
Councillor Tim Mander who chaired the Forum welcomed the announcement
“Bridgwater Town Council and Forum members expressed their willingness to support and contribute to the development of the proposals as the project progresses. The feasibility study team agreed to engage with the Town Council and local representatives and bring forward options for discussion when available.
“This is an exciting, albeit long overdue project, which will hopefully lead to proper joined-up public transport to serve the residents of Bridgwater and surrounding villages. Members of the Forum absolutely welcomed the feasibility study.”
The proposed Transport Hub has the potential to create a more integrated and accessible public transport network, supporting residents, visitors and commuters while strengthening links between bus, coach and rail services
