Bridgwater Town Council has awarded Venue Grants to five organisations that play an important role in supporting residents and enhancing community life across the town.
The successful recipients are:
- Victoria Park Community Centre
- Sydenham Community Centre
- Rusty Road
- South West Heritage Trust
- Somerset Film
Venue Grants are awarded selectively to organisations that are permanently based in Bridgwater. The scheme provides financial assistance to established charities and non-profit Community Interest Companies (CICs) to help meet their ongoing operational costs.
To qualify for funding, organisations must demonstrate how they address identified local needs and provide valuable non-statutory services, activities and opportunities for residents that might otherwise not be available.
As part of the funding arrangement, each recipient enters into a Service Level Agreement (SLA) with Bridgwater Town Council. The agreement reinforces a collaborative relationship between the Council and funded organisations, ensuring that public investment delivers clear benefits to the community.
While SLAs are valid for a three-year period, organisations are required to reapply annually in order to continue receiving funding.
Councillor Brian Smedley, Leader of Bridgwater Council said,

From community facilities and cultural services to heritage and creative opportunities, these organisations provide valuable activities and support that help strengthen our community. We are pleased to be able to continue investing in services that benefit people across the town.”
The Venue Grant programme forms part of the Council’s commitment to supporting local organisations that deliver meaningful social, cultural and community benefits for the people of Bridgwater.
