Bridgwater Town Council is reminding residents and visitors of the temporary road closures and parking restrictions that will be in place to support the safe and successful operation of Bridgwater Fair 2026.
From 9.00am on Tuesday 29 September 2026 until 10.00am on Sunday 4 October 2026, several roads surrounding St Matthews Field will be closed to traffic.
West Street will be closed between the A39 Broadway and Durleigh Road, while Durleigh Road will be closed from its junction with West Street to Northfield. Milton Place, St Matthews Green, Westover Green and St Matthews Field will also be closed throughout this period.
Temporary parking restrictions will come into effect earlier, beginning at 6.00pm on Monday 28 September 2026 and remaining in place until 10.00am on Sunday 4 October 2026.
During this time, waiting will not be permitted on Durleigh Road between Woodbury Road and Northfield, or along the full lengths of Northfield, Park Road, Albert Street, Haygrove Park Road, Westfield Close and Halswell Close.
To support traffic management and event logistics, the existing weight restriction on Northfield will be temporarily suspended for the duration of the fair.
A residents’ parking permit scheme will once again be in operation for those living within the affected area. Residents eligible for the scheme will receive a letter in the coming days outlining how the arrangements will work and providing further information.
Bridgwater Fair remains one of the town’s most popular annual events, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The temporary traffic and parking measures are essential in helping to ensure the fair operates safely and efficiently for residents, visitors, traders and fairground operators.
The council thanks everyone for their patience and understanding while these temporary measures are in place. They are important for keeping people safe and ensuring the fair can be enjoyed by all.
