Bridgwater is set to celebrate its long-standing international friendships with events highlighting its six European twin towns.
The town is proudly twinned with La Ciotat in France, Homberg in Germany, Uherské Hradiště in the Czech Republic, Marsa in Malta, Priverno in Italy and Camacha in Portugal. These partnerships, which date back to 1957, continue to promote cultural exchange and build lasting friendships between towns.
This year’s celebrations begin with the Annual Pétanque Tournament on Friday 5 June, taking place at the new pétanque terrain in Victoria Park from 11.30am to 3.00pm.
Now in its sixth year, the popular tournament will see eight teams compete, with members of the public warmly invited to attend.
Events continue on Saturday 6 June at Bridgwater Arts Centre, starting at 7.00pm. The evening will feature films, slideshows, talks and music celebrating the town’s twinning activities over the past year.
The highlight of the evening will be a live performance from Bellevilloise, a French-Belgian gypsy jazz band, bringing a vibrant international flavour to the celebrations.
A suggested contribution of £5 per person will support future twinning initiatives.
