Bridgwater’s Blake Museum, which celebrated its 100th anniversary on 14 April 2026, is inviting residents and visitors to continue the centenary celebrations at a special event during Living History Day in Blake Gardens on Saturday 22 August 2026.
Located in the former home of Robert Blake, the museum first opened its doors in 1926 and has spent the last 100 years collecting, conserving and showcasing the stories, artefacts and heritage that make Bridgwater unique
Visitors to Living History Day will be able to step back in time and experience history brought vividly to life. Alongside the spectacular historical displays taking place throughout Blake Gardens, the museum will host a range of special centenary activities designed to celebrate both the roaring twenties and Bridgwater’s fascinating past.
Entertainment will include live music from Chrystal Bliss, performing popular songs from the 1920s to evoke the era in which the museum first opened. Sedgemoor FM will also be joining the celebrations, helping to create a lively atmosphere throughout the day.
Guests can enjoy traditional cream teas, explore the museum’s collections through entertaining and informative guided tours with “The Professor”, and discover stories from across Bridgwater’s history.
Adding to the immersive historical experience, representatives from the Battle of Sedgemoor Visitor Centre will be attending with a collection of replica artefacts and weapons linked to the famous Monmouth Rebellion. Visitors will have the opportunity to get a closer look at and handle, reproductions of items associated with the Pitchfork Rebellion, providing a unique hands-on insight into one of the most significant events in Somerset’s history.
The museum’s programme perfectly complements the wider Living History Day event, which will feature historical reenactments, living history displays, demonstrations and interactive activities throughout Blake Gardens, creating an exciting celebration of the people, places and events.
Living History Day and the Blake Museum Centenary Celebration will take place on Saturday 22 August 2026 in Blake Gardens, from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
