Media charity Somerset Film is working with the Bridgwater Town Deal Board and the local community to create a short narrative film that celebrates Bridgwater and they are looking for their perfect cast. Written by Helen Tompson and directed by Archie Rowell, they are set to film in Bridgwater from 22nd to 25th September.
The as yet-untitled film celebrates the humour, resilience, and unique character of Bridgwater through a vibrant ensemble of roles, from ambitious young creators to quick-witted elders. The script and characters have been inspired by a series of workshops delivered with community groups Hamp Youth Club and Firecrackers WI and draws on conversations with members of the public about life in the town.
Roles Available:
- Courtney (22): Warm, charismatic, and quick with observational humour. Courtney thrives on being in front of the camera and is driven by connection as much as ambition.
- Kai (22): The sharp, tech-savvy counterpart to Courtney. Ambitious and a touch cynical, Kai’s confidence masks deeper insecurities.
- Leanne (Late 50s): Practical, witty, and proudly rooted in Bridgwater. A natural community leader with quiet strength and insight.
- Mary (70s): Mischievous, sharp-tongued, and full of surprises. A grandmother with an edge, capable of delivering both laughs and heart.
- Margaret (70s): Mary’s grounded and precise foil, wielding dry humour and a deep respect for tradition.
The production is seeking performers of all backgrounds, with a particular welcome to those who live in the area or have a personal connection to the town.
