Welcome to the summer update from the team at Somerset Prepared. As we near the mid-point of the year it’s a good time to reflect on the past six months and look ahead to the holiday season.
The most prominent memory for us all are the awful events witnessed in Manchester and twice in London over the past weeks. Like all of you, our thoughts and sincere condolences are with those affected by these appalling attacks – reminding us yet again of the vigilance we must exercise in our daily lives. If you would like further information and advice on dealing with incidents such as this, visit the Malicious threats pages of our website.
As Civil Contingencies Officers we work closely with the emergency services and partner agencies to maintain arrangements that keep people safe – in circumstances we hope never occur. Incidents such as these illustrate the importance of this work but also the vital contribution of our communities in preparing to deal with incidents in Parishes and Towns across Somerset. For more information on developing local emergency plans in your area, visit the Get Prepared pages of our website.
If you would like some further detailed advice and haven’t already – please do get in touch and a member of the team will be glad to help.
In the meantime we hope you find the rest of the newsletter and resources we’ve put together useful and wish you a safe and well holiday season.
Best wishes,
Somerset Local Authorities’ Civil Contingencies Unit
