We shall follow the career of one of the earliest and greatest female writers of the eighteenth century, if not of all time. Taking a journey through one of the greatest literary periods Jane will chart the new-style novel’s rise in popularity We will hear about Jane Austen’s quiet, private upbringing and her personal struggle for true independence and learn how her novels gathered momentum and appreciation after her death.
Jane Tapley is currently a Special Events Organiser at the Theatre Royal Bath where she interviews visiting actors, writers, and directors. She lectures regularly to theatre going societies, NT and history and fine arts groups. Jane is also a West Country Tourist Board Registered Blue Badge Guide and Lecturer and the author and researcher of theatre programme notes on Hamlet, Sheridan’s The Rivals and Jane Austen’s Emma. Additionally Jane is a theatrical landlady, a home economist and consultant to various TV productions of Jane Austen adaptations as well as on food in the 18th and 19th centuries. She also hosts and cooks period meals in her Regency house in Bath for the Jane Austen Festival and other literary groups.
