Somerset County Council has enlisted the help of former BBC television journalist Clinton Rogers for a new weekly series of informative Covid-19 Catch Up videos.
The former BBC Points West correspondent will front the new series which aims to help people understand how Covid-19 is affecting Somerset, and what we can all be doing to help beat the virus.
The first Covid-19 Catch Up video features Clinton reporting from Taunton on what it means for Somerset as we leave lockdown and enter Tier Two restrictions.
The weekly Covid-19 Catch Up videos will give valuable information and advice, and Somerset County Council is encouraging viewers to send in their questions, so that they can be answered in the next film.
Trudi Grant, Somerset County Council’s Director of Public Health said: “We’ve been in Tier One previously and it wasn’t enough to hold the infection at that point in time.”
“Our infection rates are coming down so Tier Three would be too high for us at the moment. Tier Two is the right tier for us. It gives us a good opportunity to come out of the lockdown gradually, make sure we’ve got all of the right behaviours in place and make sure that we reduce our risk ahead of Christmas.”
Councillor Clare Paul, Somerset County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health said: “It is fantastic to have Clinton Rogers on board to present the new Covid-19 Catch Up videos which will deliver key information and messages to Somerset residents in a clear and relatable way.
“The Covid Catch Up videos are designed to provide accurate and up to date local information to help stop the spread of coronavirus, and all support in sharing the videos is welcomed.”
