Government statistics released 2nd May based on a report by the ONS (Office of National Statistics) dated 1st March to 17th April 2020 are now available showing comparative figures for Covid 19 deaths by Local Authority across the country. Figures thus far have concentrated on Countywide deaths with no lower tier breakdown but this is the first time figures for lower ranked authorities are available. Although the report is complex, Bridgwater Town Council has also been able to extrapolate figures at neighbourhood levels based on the 14 sub divisions of Sedgemoor including the 5 areas that comprise the town of Bridgwater. The figures show that Sedgemoor has had 23 Covid 19 deaths (21 but a further 2 unallocated) , the highest local authority in Somerset, but the 284th ranked in the country (out of 346) whilst Bridgwater (including Wembdon, Chilton Trinity and Kings Down) has seen 8 Covid deaths.
